Underwriting Services Supervisor

Position Purpose:

Contribute to company service and profit objectives by supervising the technical and clerical staff that provides policy services support (rating, policy preparation/issuance, data processing and associated clerical functions) for the Company’s Commercial Lines underwriting business units. Provide administrative and technical support to Branch and Home Office staff to ensure effective usage of the corporate imaging workflow system, as well as participate in ongoing application and workflow development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the daily workflow within the department ensuring that the Company’s established service standards are met. Establish productivity and quality guidelines for the technical and clerical staff and monitor on a regular basis.

Supervision of Technical and Clerical staff, to include but not limited to: Performance Reviews; Goal Setting; Salary Recommendations; Employee Development/Training.

Develop and document procedures pertinent to the workflow and technical aspects within the department and those that interface with the Underwriting functions.

Manage Lotus Notes Help Desk for questions/problems associated with Image application, Rating, Workflow and Procedures. Use independent judgment and decision making skills to analyze, resolve or make recommendations for solutions.

Monitor designated Image system queues for system/user problems, resolve and/or report to the appropriate resource.

Assist in developing and researching proposed enhancements to the image system, test new releases, prepare user documentation and assist in ongoing training.

Interface with Information Services, Home Office/Branch Underwriting and Actuarial/Regulatory staff regarding workflow, rating and system problems or changes

Other Duties

Assist in the budgeting and planning process.

Provide variety of management reports, i.e. Production, Quality, and Service.

Participate in Company and Corporate meetings as needed (i.e. Underwriting Conference, WRBC Imaging Group).

Maintains good working relationship with Home Office and Branch Management staff, associates, agents, public and contribute to a cooperative work environment.

Other additional elements of performance will impact this position and will be provided by the Manager of this position.

Required Education and/or Experience:

A minimum five years’ experience in the property/casualty insurance industry with supervisory background, knowledge of rating, insurance workflow and procedural analysis experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect and evaluate data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals/documentation.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, fractions and decimals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, agents, customers and vendors.

Ability to utilize PC software and proprietary company systems.

Ability to project a warm and friendly manner in all business contacts and maintain a professional relationship with fellow workers, customers and the general public.

Work Environment:

Functions generally performed in an office environment. Must be able to work as a team member to solve problems and exchange information that crosses Departments and Branches. Occasional external contact with agencies, vendors, and other WRBC companies may be expected. Travel is expected with overnight out-of-town visits required.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary position which involves sitting and keyboarding, talking and hearing, some walking, lifting (up to 40 lbs.), carrying, kneeling and bending. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
